Marie Lewis, a long-time resident of Darien, died in Stamford Hospital on Aug. 22, attended by her husband, son and niece.

She was born in Heilbron, Germany on Aug. 13, 1946, but later her family emigrated to Australia and she became a citizen and was brought up in that country. During her “gap” year she moved to England and became broker in the City of London where she met her husband of 43 years, Max Lewis. They married on June 3, 1972. In 1981, she moved to the USA with her family and settled in Darien — living there for 30 years where she was active in the community. At one point she was treasurer of the Darien Community Association.

She is survived by her husband, son Malcolm and sisters Irene Fuss and Connie Dixon of Australia. She was predeceased by her daughter Katherine in 1997.

A memorial service will be held at St Johns RC Church on Sept. 10 at 11 a.m., followed by an internment of her ashes with her daughter in Spring Grove Cemetery.
