Elizabeth Ann Weldon Herel (“Betty”) of Old Saybrook CT, and formerly Darien, CT, passed away on January 21, 2016. Throughout her years she was a loving sister, wife and mother to all of her family members. Born May 29, 1936 in Mount Vernon, NY, to Raymond Eugene Ivers and Mary Rogers Ivers, Betty grew up and graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School followed by Fordham University in 1957 with degrees in Education, Speech and Language Pathology. She then obtained a Masters Degree in Education from St. Johns University in 1959.

In 1960 she married William James Weldon II. She taught elementary students at a military base on Long Island, and then began to raise her family. In 1972, the family moved to Darien, CT, where she taught and volunteered in the schools as well as pursued personal interests in golf and tennis. Betty entered the field of Market Research where she was an associate at Yankelovich, Skelley and White as well as at Beaumont Group. In 1980 she was widowed after her husband lost a battle with cancer. Thereafter she married Francis Jerome Herel Jr., also of Darien and raised their children through their college years.

In 2001 they moved to Old Saybrook and she retired from her position of independent Market Research Consultant. In the following years she pursued her personal interests in tennis, biking and visits to the beach while actively engaging in the lives of her family and grandchildren. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Fenwood Association as well as the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, focusing on the college scholarship selection committee.

She is survived by her sister, Madeline Pappano (Husband Joe) of Akron OH, her three children, Eileen Dailey (Husband Jim) of Old Greenwich, CT; William Weldon III (Wife Jeanette) of Cooperstown, NY; and Kent R. Weldon (Wife Meghan) of Weston, MA;, as well as by her three stepchildren Mary Canty (Husband Jim) of Bronxville NY; Captain Jerry Herel, US Army ( Wife Pamela) of Fayeteville North Carolina; and Julie Helenbrook (Husband Brian) of Potsdam, NY. Betty also has 16 spectacular grandchildren, who were the focus of her life in her most recent years: James, Meghan, Will, Bradley, Gunter, Caitlin, Billy, Jack, Kevin, Alexandra, Hunter, Ryan, Katie, Christina, Charlie and Sam.

Calling hours will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday January 28 at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, CT., Mass of Christian burial at St. John's church 161 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT., at 11 am on Friday January 29, 2016.
