Daniel “Dan” Thomas O’Meara, 73, of Southport, NC passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in Wilmington, NC.

Dan was born in Stamford, CT on January 5, 1942 to Richard and Dorothy Overholser O’Meara. He was predeceased in death by his parents and his son John.

Surviving are his wife Marilyn of Southport, son David (Jill) of Canton, GA, daughter Deborah (Luc) of Blainville, Quebec, his four wonderful grandchildren: Jarod, Danielle, Nicolas and Tristan. His brother John (Trish) of Port St. Lucie, Fl., and Sister Lillian (Wendell) of Phoenix, AZ.

He spent much of his life in Stamford and Norwalk, CT before retiring to Southport in 2009. He was a 1960 graduate of Stamford High School and was a member of the varsity football team.

After graduation Dan went into his own business and operated an Exxon Service Station on the Boston Post Road for over 30 years. Dan was an avid boater all of his life and loved to be out on the water on Long Island Sound and in NC. He was a member of the US Coast Auxiliary, Cape Fear Yacht Club and a life member of the South Norwalk Boat Club. Dan was always giving back and volunteered at the Southport-Oak Island Food Pantry, and was an active member of the Southport Maritime Museum.

When thinking of Dan “fill a glass, raise a toast to him and know his spirit lives on forever in our hearts.”
