Alfred (Al) Frank LaBanca, a resident of Darien for over 47 years died peacefully on Thursday, April 5, at Stamford Hospital surrounded by family. He was 81 years old.

Al chose to write his own obituary as follows:

First, I thank the Good Lord for blessing me with my loving wife Joan, of over fifty years, two wonderful children, Ellen and Bob, and their spouses, Scott Connery, and Mary LaBanca, and four loving grandchildren: Cortland, Nicholas, Lauren and Cate all of Darien. My cup runneth over.

In addition, my thanks go out to all the souls that came into my life, giving me so much pleasure, and leaving me a great trove of magical memories that comforted me in my sunset years. It was they, my family and friends that so enhanced my life. I am in their debt.

And to those whom I may have trespassed upon and those that may have trespassed upon me — I forgive all and ask forgiveness.

I leave this beautiful world reluctantly. I had a wonderful life. Please don't mourn for me — instead, spare me a thought or two when you see a lighthouse standing in the distance.
