Jack Halloran, former resident and town volunteer
John W. (Jack) Halloran of Shelton and Norwalk, formerly of Fairfield and Darien, died peacefully at his home in Shelton on April 17, 2015 surrounded by his wife and family.
John known as “Jack” was born in Norwalk, on September 29, 1932 to Richard and Helen Barry Halloran. He grew up in Norwalk, attended St. Mary's School, Fairfield Prep (Class of 1950) and graduated from Fairfield University in 1954 with a B.S. in Accounting. Jack began his accounting a career at Machlett Laboratories in Stamford, and later at Robinson Preece in Norwalk. He was a founding partner of Giacomini & Halloran where he spent the majority of his career as a certified public accountant until his retirement in January.
Jack and his first wife, Paula (who died in 1984) raised their family in Norwalk and lived there for a number of years before moving to Darien. Jack was involved in many community activities during his time in Darien where he and Paula raised their four children. He was on the Board of Directors at the Darien YMCA, the Sewer Commission for the town of Darien, the St. Thomas More Parish Council, the Darien Little League, YMCA Indian Guides and the Ox Ridge School PTA.
During his years in Norwalk, he served on the Norwalk Planning & Zoning Commission, the Tracey School PTA, and he was a past president & member of the Norwalk Exchange Club, the Norwalk Catholic Club, Shore & Country Club and the Silvermine Golf Club. He was also a past member of St. Luke's Parish Council and he and Mary Lou were part of the St. Luke's Christmas Fair committee.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Halloran of Shelton, four children: Beth Breck of New Canaan, Jane Halloran Ryan of Tulla, County Clare, Ireland, Barry J. Halloran of Vienna, VA, and Paula Louise Halloran of New Canaan, . He is also survived by two step-children: Dennis Hrbek of Trumbull, and Kim Redmond of Monroe, . He was “Pop” to nine grandchildren: Jack III, Fitz, and Ryan Halloran of Vienna, VA,; Lindsay, Emily, Gillian, Michael and Daniel Ryan of Tulla,County Clare, Ireland; and Teagen Halloran of New Canaan, , and three step-grandchildren: Sarah and James Redmond of Monroe, and Ellie Hrbek of Trumbull, . In addition, he is survived by his much loved nieces and nephews: Susie, Joe, Ellen, Roberta, Kathy Mae, Dunn & Tim, as well as his godson, John O'Keeffe, many cousins and extended family throughout Norwalk and in Ireland.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk. Burial followed in St. John Cemetery, Darien.
