Darien middle schoolers selected to perform at Carnegie Hall
Four Darien middle schoolers recently performed at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. In February, they auditioned for a performance opportunity at the one of the most prestigious venues in the world; the grand prize winners earn a spot to perform at Carnegie Hall. The audition was hosted by Concert Festival (www.concertfestival.org).
Marcus Ashcraft, Grace Liu, June Qin, Kai Sparks, all current sixth graders at Middlesex Middle School, are students of Li-Pi Hsieh. A former resident of Darien, her piano studio is currently located in Stamford. They have all been taking instructions from her since the early years in elementary school.
Hsieh has many years of experience in teaching piano to young children. In order to prepare the students for these auditions, she arranges multiple run through sessions, as well as recitals, which serve as dress rehearsals for the students. The countless hours of practicing and the many dress rehearsals paid off in the end when they were awarded the grand prize to perform at Carnegie Hall on March 11.
