Intoxicated Darien man charged for shattering car window

Police arrested a 31-year-old Darien man for criminal mischief after he broke a car window near the Noroton Heights train station on September 12. The complainant told police a man, who police said appeared intoxicated, had broken the window and was standing near the train platform.

MTA Police located the suspect and were met by Darien officers. They identified the man as James Reardon and noticed a cut on his right hand. A Subaru Outback nearby in the parking lot had its rear window broken out. Reardon said the car belonged to his girlfriend and he had broken the window to retrieve something from inside. Officers stated that Reardon appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

When Reardon’s girlfriend was contacted, she said she doesn’t own a Subaru Outback, and was currently away in Rhode Island. Reardon was then issued a misdemeanor summons for breaking the window and released on a promise to appear in court. After being checked by Post 53 medical responders, he was released into the custody of a family member. The owner of the Outback was contacted in regards to the damage.
