A Shields resident left their home at about 5 a.m. on April 5 to discover that their car had been stolen overnight. The vehicle, a 2017 BMW X3, was last seen parked in the driveway with the doors unlocked and the key in the center console.

A GPS tracking device showed the car in Waterbury at about 7:45 a.m. that morning and local police were able to recover the stolen vehicle. There was no apparent damage to the car but the victim reported their wallet and keys missing along with $70 in cash, their driver’s license and several credit cards.

According to police three other unlocked cars on Shields Road, Kona Road and Libby Lane were burglarized on the same evening, but only a $20 bill was reported missing. The investigation of the car theft and burglaries in the area is still ongoing.
