Saturday: Self-defense, situational awareness training for women and girls taught by Darien Police
A course for women in basic self-defense and situational awareness is being held in Darien at the Town Hall gym on Saturday, March 25, from 3 to 5 p.m.
The course, for mothers and daughters, ages 12 and up, and all women who want to learn the basics of self-defense in a safe and helpful environment. Training is being conducted by the Darien Police Department and hosted by Darien's Christ Community Church in Darien.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, about 20 million out of 112 million women (18.0%) in the United States have been raped during their lifetime. Approximately 1.8 million adolescents in the United States have been the victims of sexual assault.
The fee for one registrant is $20. All additional registrants per one party is $10.
