Police seeking information on raw sewage dumped at St. John’s Cemetery
A large amount of raw sewage was illegally disposed of by St. John’s Cemetery, leading authorities to contact the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection. A patron of the cemetery informed the manager of a strong odor coming near a mausoleum. The manager then discovered that raw sewage had been dumped along a riverbank behind the mausoleum.
Officers found what appeared to be truck-tire marks near the spill, suggesting that a septic truck had parked near the river and used a hose to dump the waste. Noroton Heights Fire Department responded to the scene and placed a hazmat boom by the river bank to contain the waste from further polluting the water.
Fire department personnel then contacted the State Department of Energy & Environmental Protection to notify them of the spillage. Anyone with potential information on this incident is strongly encouraged to contact the police department at 203-662-5300.
