A Darien man was arrested for drunk driving after crashing his car into a bush along West Avenue on the morning of Memorial Day, May 28. The crash was reported to police just before 8:30 a.m. and officers arrived at the scene to find the car in question with heavy front damage at 325 West Avenue. A witness at the scene told officers the driver had left on foot towards Joseph Street, and another driver told police the driver had stumbled towards the rear of a Charles Street property.
When the driver saw police near the back of the house, he began to run but stopped immediately when ordered by police. He was identified as Christopher Oxer, 32, of Henry Street in Darien. Oxer did not have his wallet or cell phone on his person, telling police he may have lost them while running from the scene of the crash. When asked why he ran Oxer said he did not know, but struggled to maintain his balance. He repeatedly said he didn’t recall anything in regards to the crash.
