Darien police have arrested a Stamford resident for three overnight smash and grab burglaries committed at Frate’s Liquors between Dec. 2016 and Feb. 2017. In each incident the suspect, identified as Thomas Golterman, 46, used a rock to shatter the front window and gain access to the store.

Based on surveillance footage police determined that the same suspect had been involved in all three burglaries. Golterman was arrested on Aug. 25 in Stamford while committing several overnight burglaries in a similar fashion. Darien detectives were able to match Golterman to the surveillance footage for burglaries that occurred on Dec. 28, 2016 and Feb. 19, 2017. The first burglary, which occurred on Dec. 15, 2016, is still under investigation.

On Sept. 28, 2017, Darien detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Golterman for the two burglaries. Because Golterman had remained in custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections since August, arrangements were made for him to be brought to Stamford Superior Court to face the Darien charges. On Nov. 20 Golterman was arrested by Darien detectives and charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of larceny and two counts of criminal mischief. A bond of $150,000 was issued and he remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
