Police: Cooking grease taken from Jimmy’s Southside
The theft about $100 worth of used cooking grease was reported to Darien police on the morning of Feb. 24. An employee of Yellow-Green Environmental contacted the police from Jimmy’s Southside Tavern.
Used cooking oil is currently in demand by various organizations to be converted into biodiesel fuel.
Yellow-Green has an agreement to pick up used cooking oil from Jimmy’s Southside every two weeks, but the lock on the outdoor container where the grease is held was missing. As much as 100 gallons of oil were removed and there were no signs of spillage in the area. Police are investigating the incident, and similar incidents have been reported in recent months.
