A Norwalk resident was arrested in Darien on June 24 as a fugitive from justice stemming from motor vehicle charges in Florida. Darien police stopped a Vespa scooter for running two stop lights and swerving into the oncoming lane of traffic at about 2:30 a.m.

The driver, identified as Julian Andres Santa, 34, allegedly showed signs of intoxication while speaking to police and was unable to complete field sobriety tests. He was charged with DUI, driving without a license and driving without eye protection.

Santa refused a breathalyzer test at Darien police station and while being booked officers discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Osceola County, Florida for violation of probation and a DWI charge from earlier in the year. The County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they would extradite Santa back to Florida.

Santa was held on $25,000 bond for the Darien charges and $250,000 for the Florida warrant. He was taken to Stamford Superior Court on June 26.
