Darien Police Department’s Marine Division responded to a vessel on fire on the Long Island Sound on June 17. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the operator who indicated there had been an explosion and fire aboard his boat
The explosion caused the operator’s shirt to catch fire, at which point he jumped into the water to extinguish it. The operator suffered minor burns to his torso, face, and arms. The operator was brought aboard Darien-127 and transported ashore to a waiting Post-53 unit for transport to the hospital. Norwalk Fire Marine Division took possession of the disabled vessel.
