Darien resident's phone bills lead to identity theft investigation
On March 11, a Delafield Island resident had reported a case of identity theft to police after discovering two Verizon Wireless bills in the resident’s name. The victim does not have a Verizon account of her own but one of the bills showed three phone numbers assigned to her and the second bill showed a fourth number. The total charge for the first month was $127.53.
The victim contacted Verizon’s fraud department which reported that the phone had been purchased online using her Social Security number. The representative said the phones were shipped to a different Connecticut address that could not be shared until a police report was filed.
Police are now investigating the case, but no other suspicious activity has been reported.
