Darien man charged with assault, risk of injury to a child
A 36-year-old Darien man was charged with assault and risk of injury to a child following a domestic dispute on July 29. At about 10:15 p.m. the victim arrived at police headquarters to report an argument with a family member that had turned physical.
According to the victim, the family member made hand gestures near the victim’s face without making physical contact as the victim held their three-year-old son. When the victim made the same gesture back at man, he allegedly grabbed the victim’s arms and pinned them on their back.
The victim was still holding the child at this point, but the three-year-old slid out of the victim’s arms and onto a couch during the scuffle. The victim told police they attempted to leave the home and contact the police, but the family member continued to follow. The victim threw several small household items at him to try and maintain their personal space. Officers observed that the victim had sustained minor injuries to both arms as a result of the incident.
Officers then responded to the Hoyt Street home and met with the suspect. He admitted that there had been argument, but he claimed the victim was the instigator. He said he did grab the victim but he attempted to stop the victim from being physical with him. He also stated that the victim threw a cellphone and shoes at him just prior to leaving the house. He also disputed the claim that the victim was holding the three-year-old child at the time that he grabbed the victim.
Based on the officer’s investigation it was determined that probable cause existed to arrest the suspect. He was placed in handcuffs and transported to police headquarters and processed for the above charges. processing. He was released on $5,000 cash bond at approximately and was given a court date of July 30.
