A Darien man was charged with assault, strangulation and interfering with an emergency call for his role in a domestic dispute on Jan. 4. An emergency call was made from a home in Darien’s Tokeneke neighborhood at about 12:25 p.m. but the dispatcher was unable to communicate with the caller. Hearing arguing and a victim yelling for help on the line, the dispatcher traced the location of the call, sending officers to a home on Old Farm Road.

Officers met with Mitchell Kelly, who said he had gotten into an argument with the emergency caller, and they had since left the scene. Kelly said they both grabbed each others phones during the course of the argument. The other person was located at a nearby restaurant.

The victim said they had grabbed Kelly’s phone and he became physical while they tried to call 911, grabbing the victims on phone at that time. The victim said Kelly grabbed their throat at one point and officers observed minor injuries to the victim’s neck.

Kelly was arrested on the charges above and was processed at Darien Police Department. He was issued a court date of Jan. 5 and released on $2,500 bond.
