Checks stolen from outgoing mailbox at Corbin Drive post office, altered and cashed
A resident told police that they mailed a check on Jan. 13 in the amount of $500 to a business by putting it in the outgoing receptacle at the Darien Post Office on Corbin Drive. Earlier on the day of Jan. 17, the complainant was notified that the check had been cashed in the amount of $4,750.50, made out to an individual.
A similar incident was reported by a separate resident the same day. The resident also reporting mailing a check in the amount of $275 made out to a company on Jan. 13. On Jan. 19, the resident informed police a check had been cased for $4,300. The image of the cashed check had been altered and made out to an individual’s name in the amount of $4,300.
