Darien Police and the Noroton Fire Department were dispatched to Goodwives River Road on the report of a vehicle fully engulfed by fire.

After the fire was extinguished, the Darien Fire Marshal and police detectives inspected the vehicle and interviewed the driver. The driver said reported that while driving, he noticed smoke coming from underneath the front-passenger seat, and also got a message on the vehicle’s display instructing him to seek vehicle service immediately.

As the smoke got heavier, he pulled the vehicle to the side of the road, exited, and within a short time the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The Darien Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating further to determine the origin and cause of the fire. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest anything other than a vehicle malfunction or accidental cause.
