Citizen Police Academy  (CSI: Darien) is a six-week program run by Youth Division Detectives Mark Cappelli and James Palmieri in conjunction with The Depot Youth Center. The program gives students a better understanding as to many of the police officers’ duties, responsibilities and training requirements. Officers from different departments participate, allowing students an opportunity to become acquainted with them in a friendly, interactive environment. Planned for this year are traffic enforcement, accident investigation, criminal justice, internet safety, forensics, crime scene investigation, and a presentation with SERT (Southwestern Emergency Response Team) and the department's canine officers and their handlers.

Citizen Police Academy will meet Thursdays 7 to 8:15 pm beginning Jan. 4 and run through Feb. 8 at the Darien Police Department. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 20. Applications can be found at

Due to the nature of this program, the first 15 applicants only will be accepted.
