Alleged attempted meat larceny intercepted at Stop & Shop

A 42-year-old Stamford man was arrested for attempting to steal about $155 worth of meat from Stop & Shop. A store employee spotted James Coates stuffing packaged meat into his vest and pants on May 16 and police were notified.

Police responding to the scene could see that Coates had items bulging from beneath his clothing and he admitted to taking store property when asked. He told officers he was just trying to feed himself and removed 10 packages in total from his clothing. Coates charged with larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on May 26.
