FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The state of Florida is seeking the death penalty against a man indicted on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of two women.

The News-Press reports the state attorney’s office on Tuesday filed a notice to seek the penalty for 25-year-old Wade Steven Wilson. Wilson is accused of killing 35-year-old Kristine Melton and 43-year-old Diane Ruiz, both of Cape Coral.

Ruiz disappeared one morning in October while on her way to work. Her purse was found abandoned alongside a road in Cape Coral. That same day, Melton was found dead at her home and Wilson was arrested on unrelated charges of battery and burglary on allegations that he assaulted another woman and broke into a home. Days later, Ruiz’s body was found in an area field.
