For it’s 23rd year, The Shakespeare on the Sound theater company will produce an open-air production of a work by William Shakespeare in the Fairfield County. This year’s production is A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The play takes place in Athens, Greece during the regency time period and follows the story of Demetrius, Lysander, Hermia, and Helena; four noblemen and women who have become entangled in each other’s love life and flee into the forest to escape an arranged marriage. The tale features magical fairies, amazonians, and a play within a play.

The play will feature performances from New York City-based actors such as Graham Stevens and Winsome Brown, who played Macbeth and Lady Macbeth respectively for last years rendition of Macbeth. Also performing is Kristen Mitsopoulos, a Darien High School alumni and recent Syracuse University graduate with a bachelors in fine arts.

The production is directed by Claire Shannon Kelly who has become a key figure in the Shakespeare on the Sound program.

“Claire Kelly has been our director for several years and we love how well she understands our audience,” said Director of Education Emily Bryan. “This year’s production will be very interactive and exciting with gorgeous costumes and music!”

“We’re excited to be showcasing the beautiful Pinkney Park and Five Mile River and thrilled to be performing on Midsummer’s Eve, June 21st,” said Bryan.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will began on Thursday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. and run until Sunday, July 1st (excluding Mondays) at Pinkney Park, 177 Rowayton Avenue in Rowayton. From Thursdays to Sundays tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for seniors. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are exclusive to donators only. Children twelve and under can attend for free.

A whimsical and interactive 30-minute long adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream by the Shakespeare on the Sound Players, the Pre-Show is fun for children and adults alike and takes place at 6:30 before every performance.

In addition to the pre-show, there will be an education tent, located at the front of the park, full of fun arts and crafts as well as other activities.
