Phil Kraft Day declared in Darien Saturday celebrated long-time town servant
Phil Kraft, past Commander of Darien's VFW Post #6933, and former chairman of Darien's Monuments & Ceremonies Commission was honored at a party for Phil and his wife, Peach at the VFW, when Darien First Selectman Jayme Stevenson presented Phil with a Proclamation declaring May 5. as Phil Kraft Day. Phil volunteered and served as a member of the Monuments & Ceremonies Commission for 22 years and as chairman for 12 years. He performed the duties as Master of Ceremonies for all Darien ceremonies including the Memorial Day Parade Ceremony, Flag Day, Veterans Day, and the 9/11 ceremony. He was instrumental in bringing Wreaths Across America to Spring Grove Veterans cemetery.
Professionally, Phil currently serves as executive director of HonorBound Foundation which offers veterans case-managed social services, emergency financial relief, advocacy, and help with services and equipment. Recently, Phil was invited by U.S. Senator Chris Murphy to serve as a founding member of the Veterans Advisory Council.
