Darien Parks & Reccreation director Pam Gery  has issued a notice to The Darien Times regarding a public hearing and the postponing of an opening celebration for the Town's Ox Ridge property that was to be held on Sunday, Oct. 29. Here is her statement:

The Parks & Recreation Commission and Department has received a groundswell of response to the concepts being considered as part of our Master Park Plan.  This groundswell has resulted in considerable emotion and misinformation related to a number of the amenities being proposed.  In order to focus our intentions on the Master Park Plan, the following changes have been made:
  1. The Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on Wednesday,  Oct. 18 will be an additional Public Hearing on the Master Park Plan concepts and no voting will take place that night.  The  Parks & Recreation Commission plans to vote on the concepts at the P&R Commission Meeting on November 15th, 2017.
  2. The Ox Ridge Opening Celebration scheduled for Oct. 29 will be postponed until the spring of 2018.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium at our Public Hearing.

The statement follows continued debate from Ox Ridge neighbors about their preferred use of the property and the creation of a Facebook page and petition to keep it for "passive recreation" vs. youth playing fields.
