PHOTOS: St. Baldrick's firefighters' event kicks off early with Tuesday participant
Darien's Nina Miller was the first participant of this year's St. Baldrick's event. The official event is Saturday night, March 30. Darien, Noroton and Noroton Heights Fire Departments will be holding a St. Baldrick’s event to benefit children with cancer in their seventh annual event.
Miller, who is on the programming staff of the Darien Nature Center, had her head shaved for the event on Tuesday and Fredric & Co. because she will be out of town Saturday.
"About a year ago, one of the students at the Nature Center came down with leukemia. It was then and there that I decided to participate in this years St. Baldrick's event," Nina told The Darien Times.
That first cut from Nina will go to Pantene (they accept gray hair and don’t charge their customers for the wigs.)
Last year, the Darien fire departments and other participants raised approximately $60,000. Approximately 60 participants volunteered to have their heads shaved for the cause and the event drew about 150.
