To the Editor:

Reported in media this past week was the HAN Network decision to sell the print and digital assets of seven weekly newspaper brands to the Hearst Connecticut Media Group, while ceasing publication of five of its other local newspapers.  Thankfully one of the survivors is our Darien Times !

At a time when local, regional and national news needs to be reported in an unbiased way, the last thing we need is to see credible local news resources disappear.  Susan Shultz and her trim team of reporters has, in this writer’s opinion, done an incredible community service to our town over many recent years.

The Darien Times is a mainstay of news we need to know and a vital outlet for community opinion.  Perhaps we need to make sure that message is reinforced to its new Hearst  ownership and encourage them  to balance the need for profit with the need for unbiased journalism in the many 169 towns that make up our state.
