First Congregational Church to hold benefit to support Puerto Rico hurricane victims
September marks the one year anniversary of Hurricane Maria which devastated Puerto Rico and has left an ongoing humanitarian crisis. The First Congregational Church of Darien’s Outreach Board will hold a benefit on Friday, Sept. 28, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m to support the Mariana neighborhood in the community of Humana. The people of Mariana are rebuilding their neighborhood with little government assistance. We are supporting their self-reliance by raising funds for their community center, which provides education, social, lodging and economic development services.
Out of an abandoned schoolhouse, El Centro de Imagincaion will be born. The center will include space and supplies for learning, art and music, lodging for visitors, and a business center for the area. The facility will support education and development of the village children and attract visitors for the arts and for business. The facility will also provide shelter from future storms.
The benefit will be held at First Congregational Church of Darien, Parish Hall, 14 Brookside Road, Darien, Connecticut
Puerto Rican salsa music performed by local band "Park City" and Puerto Rican food by La Esquina Del Mofongo. Tickets are $35 per person includes food & entertainment. Additional donations gratefully accepted.
