Darien's town back to school supply drive kicks off Monday
The Human Services Department will be holding its annual Back-to-School Supplies Drive beginning Monday, July 24, according to director Ali Ramsteck.
The Back-to-School Program helps eligible Darien school children get off to a good start with backpacks, school supplies and gift certificates for shoes or sneakers. The Department of Human Services works directly with the Darien schools to determine what school supplies are required for each grade so that every student begins the school year with the appropriate supplies.
Last year, the Back-to-School Program served 130 Darien school children and the number is expected to increase this year. As most parents know, the cost of back-to-school supplies increases each year and can be a burden on families that are already struggling (particularly those families with multiple school-aged children). In order to help their clients, the Department of Human Services is accepting donations of new school supplies and is in particular need of new, large backpacks (which can be purchased at Costco or any major retailer). The Back-to-School Program is one of the many services that the Department of Human Services provides to the residents of Darien. If you’re interested in contributing to this or any of their programs, please contact the Department of Human Services at 203-656-7328. The office is open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30 pm in Town Hall, Room 109.
