Darien's Memorial Day parade to have scheduled Air Force flyover
For the third year in a row, Darien's Memorial Day parade will have a flyover from what is likely to be an Air Force C-130.
The parade steps off from the GoodWives Shopping Center at 10 a.m. Monday morning.
According to Dave Polett, chairman of the town's Monuments & Ceremonies Commission, this year's flyover was a bit more complicated to secure than previous years.
"But Linda O'Leary and Town Hall coordinated the whole thing," Polett said.
O'Leary serves as the executive assistant to First Selectman Jayme Stevenson and the first selectman's office.
The flyover was arranged by coordinating with several agencies including the F.A.A. and the Air Force and the local unit.
It is expected to happen between 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. How low the C-130 flies depends on how good the visibility is Monday morning, Polett said.
The C-130 is so named for its 130-foot wingspan.
