Darien Art Odyssey to host first exhibition Sunday
The Art-Barn Studio will provide space for the first-ever Darien Art Odyssey Exhibition, featuring visual art, performances, music, and videos by Darien youth on Sunday, June 3.
The Darien Art Odyssey is administered by Darien High school seniors Kate Weinberg, Lucy Whitaker, Coco Rooney and Cody Boccuzzi. The idea for the event was conceived after one of the administrators Coco Rooney had a conversation with Andrea Bonfils, a Darien resident, artist, and owner of the Art-Barn Studio, about how the art students don’t have the same amount of support as the athletic community does.
Before the creation of the odyssey, organizers felt the only way young artists could share their art on a wide scale was during the high school art fair which doesn’t include independent artists who work in their free time and aren’t part of an art class.
“Our goal is to elevate and celebrate the arts and give our artists a place to gain recognition and know that they are appreciated” said Kate Weinberg. “We hope that this year's event will be a huge success in order to make this an inaugural event and be able to give out bigger awards to our artists every year.”
The featured artist of the Darien Art Odyssey is Loyola Marymount University student Emma Weinberg who will be exhibiting her piece “The Kids Were Certainly Alright;” A collection of photographs depicting the coming of age during her high school years in Darien.
The Art-Barn studio is located at 48 Goodwives River Road, Darien. Tickets are free and the exhibition takes place 12 to 4 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. on June 3.
