Now that prom season is over, the Darien Community Association Thrift Shop is hosting a prom dress drive.

Residents are invited "pay it forward," and drop off their prom dresses at the DCA Thrift Shop for someone else's purchase.

The thrift shop is at 996 Post Road, Darien, and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 4.

The DCA Thrift Shop was founded in 1931 to supply clothing and food to families in need, and offer employment for women during the Depression. Workers washed and mended donated clothing and repaired household articles, which were then sold at very low prices.

Today’s Thrift Shop is run by volunteers, proud to continue the tradition of helping the community. They have expanded the merchandise to include jewelry, books, home furnishings, accessories and more. More than 1,800 customers make purchases at the shop each month. All profits support the mission of the DCA.

The Thrift Shop has been recognized with the Community Civic Award by the Darien Old Timers Athletic Association, and is also a two-time recipient of the Darien Chamber of Commerce “Green Ribbon Award for Distinguished Environmental Activities.”

More information about the DCA Thrift Shop can be found online at dariendca.org or call 203-655-4552. The shop’s normal hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 4 p.m.
