Choose Love this Friday with Summer Nights concert finale
The Darien Summer Nights Concert Series will conclude the 2018 Summer Series with a finale performance this Friday evening.
On Aug. 31 from 7 to 10 p.m., there will be a very special concert featuring Free Flow and The Spadtastics who will perform at Tilley Pond Park. This concert will benefit the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement, a non-profit founded by Darien native, Scarlett Lewis. After losing her son Jesse in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Scarlett has taken her son’s message left on the chalkboard in their kitchen, “nurturing, healing and love” to create a movement to bring love and health into our schools. Scarlett has personally dedicated her life’s work to sharing his message to make a positive impact on our world and by supporting the efforts of increasing the awareness and benefits of Social and Emotional Learning by “Choosing Love. Annie Genovese, Kelly Holmes, Kat Reynolds, Sadie Stafford and Brinley Vrooman, seventh grade students at Middlesex Middle School instantly opened their hearts and minds once learning about the Choose Love Charity. The girls will be accompanying singer/songwriter Doug Allen as well as many Darien students on stage as he performs his single "Choose Love." Doug is originally from Darien and now lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
This past Spring, the girls approached local store owner, Bill Jensen from the Darien Toy Box about the possibility of selling their homemade slime outside his store front. The sale was a success!! By the end of the afternoon, not one container of slime was to be found - their entire supply was sold out. They were overwhelmed with the support from the community and their friends and family. Awash with profit from their first retail endeavor, the girls agreed to donate $500 to the Choose Love Foundation.
Annie, Kelly, Kat, Sadie and Brinley will have a supply of limited edition “Choose Love” slime for sale. All proceeds from this special batch of slime made with love and in memory of Jesse, will be donated to the Choose Love Foundation.
