Board of Education to hold annual retreat Tuesday afternoon

The Darien Board of Education will hold its annual retreat on Tuesday at 4:30 in the meeting room of the Board of Ed building at 35 Leroy Avenue.

The meeting was originally scheduled off site at 300 Atlantic Street, in Stamford — the offices of the school district's attorney's Shipman & Goodwin. It was moved to 35 Leroy yesterday after some objected to the location.

When questioned about the short notice of the retreat (Monday), Board of Ed Chairman Tara Ochman said it was tough to get everyone's schedules in line to confirm it.

The Freedom of Information Act requires 24-hour notice of a special meeting which was met by this meeting's notice timing. The agenda must specify the time, place and business to be transacted.

The current agenda for the meeting has one item - Board operations and member performance, presided over by Ochman.

Last year's retreat was held in July at the Board of Ed office and number of items on the agenda included presentations by Ochman and acting Schools Superintendent Elliot Landon, presentation on role and responsibilities of Board of Ed members, preliminary discussion of district goals for 2018-19, preliminary discussion of board goals for 2018-19, and board self evaluation.

The Board of Education usually meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. The next two meetings are June 11 and June 25 according to the master schedule. Though the Board of Ed meetings are usually recorded and posted separately from Darien TV79, Jim Cameron confirmed to The Darien Times that 79 will be in attendance at the meeting and will post the video on its on demand site as soon as possible.

You can watch it here when it posted.
