Balloon day raises $73,000 for Person-to-Person campership program
On May 20, 2017, hundreds of OPUS members and their children tied signature red balloons on mailboxes and storefronts throughout town, as a symbol of their gratitude to those who made donations, big and small, to their annual Balloon day fundraiser, which raised an unprecedented $73,000 to fund the Person-to-Person campership program. This program is now fully funded and will send hundreds of Stamford children to day camp this summer, providing a safe, nurturing and academically stimulating environment while their parents must work.
The incredible success of this year’s Balloon Day is not only attributed to the generosity of its lead sponsor, Houlihan Lawrence, but also to the social media campaign, #thisREDballoon. This campaign engaged thousands of people in Darien; neighbors, businesses and schools submitted their pictures and sentiments for what they hoped “this red balloon” would do for the children who benefit from the Person-to-Person campership program.
“Many OPUS members have young kids who enjoy camp every summer, which makes this a particularly meaningful fundraiser. We are so proud that our efforts will truly make a difference for hundreds of kids in our neighboring community,” shared Jennifer Ward, Board Member of OPUS for Person-to-Person.
