This week, the 89-year-old Stamford man charged with evading responsibility for striking a 15-year-old boy surrendered his driver's license to Darien Police, after having told police he was not aware he had hit a person on Hoyt Street near the Stamford border, Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron said.
Marron said police would have been required to take away Paul Plepis' license, a power law enforcement officers can exercise with motorists they feel are medically unfit to drive.
The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles requires drivers who are over 65 to renew their driver's licenses in person, and will order medical evaluations for drivers who have been identified as a potential risk by police or the public.
