Running uncontested for three slots on the Board of Education were Democrat Katie Stein and Republican Sarah J. Schneider Zuro — both newcomers — and Elizabeth A. Hagerty Ross, the current board chairman.

Planning and Zoning Commission members Kevin Cunningham, a Democrat, and Susan R. Cameron and Richard Allen DiDonna, two Republicans, also stood unopposed.

Three members ran uncontested for the Board of Finance: Republican incumbent Jamie McLaughlin, James R. Palen Jr., and Diana Maguire.

The lack of contests in these races left the competition for the Board of Selectman’s five spots as the main event on Election Day. The Board of Selectmen was guaranteed to change with Republican incumbent Gerald Nielsen, as well as Democratic incumbents E. Reilly Tierney and Christopher P. Hall, all choosing to step down.
