Two DHS students chosen for National Honors Choir
Melanie Turner and Matthew Hayes, Darien High School music students, were chosen through a rigorous audition and application process to participate in the National Association for Music Education's 2013 National Honors Choir Oct. 27 to 30 in Nashville, Tenn.
Turner, a soprano, and Hayes, bass, are members of the DHS Tudor Singers and have been members of the Connecticut Western Region and All-State Choruses in past few years.
The National Honors Choir is made up of outstanding musicians from throughout the United Stated and will be conducted by Professor Rollo Dilworth. Dilworth is professor of choral music education and chairman of the music education department at Temple University's Boyer School of Music and Dance in Philadelphia, Pa. He has written or arranged more than 150 choral works and has authored several books and choral methods that are in use in choirs throughout the United States and abroad.
Both students are juniors and study voice privately with Kathryn Amyotte.
Christopher Andrade, the Darien High School choral director, said, "This is one of the highest achievements that can be attained by high school musicians and we are very fortunate to have two outstanding, accomplished, students representing Darien and the state of Connecticut at this prestigious event. We are all extremely proud of their accomplishments."
