Thunderstorm, hail warnings issued for parts of Connecticut

The National Weather Service issued thunderstorm warnings for parts of the state on Saturday evening, warning of strong winds and the potential for hail.

The weather service warned of a “strong thunderstorm” moving east across the state, and would be affecting Fairfield and New Haven counties beginning at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.

A similar weather warning was issued for Litchfield beginning just before 7 p.m.

Residents in thoses area can expect winds gusting at more than 30 mph and hail half an inch in diameter.

The weather service warned the strong winds could down trees and other debris.

The state experienced periodic storms throughout the day on Saturday, and weather officials said they are expected to continue into the night.
