The Depot, open to all Darien high school-age students, provides a safe, supervised, drug- and alcohol-free place to gather and participate in a variety of social activities and community service.
On average, 1,200 teens and pre-teens each month visit The Depot, 45 Heights Road, to participate in Students Against Destructive Decisions, Girls' Night Out, Citizens Police Academy, self-defense workshops, mother and daughter nights, seasonal sports, Captain's Dinners, band nights, Cop Shop, Student League of Darien, Cops and Kids Adventures, Helping Hand, dances, movie/pizza nights, theater performances, sports tournaments and open mic nights.
The Depot also is home to Wyldlife, Kids in Crisis Youth Corps, Safe Rides and Fun Busters/Life Skills.
Additionally, the Student Governing Board creates and runs many of the monthly programming events and is responsible for and enforcing the rules of conduct at The Depot. The SGB works closely with and under the supervision of Janice Marzano, program director, to plan and execute each event.
The SBG also welcomes fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders twice a year for after-school parties consisting of face painting, games, music, pizza and ice cream. The parties include students from all five Darien public elementary schools, as well as Pear Tree School Point and students residing in Darien but attending private schools.
For special events, there is a charge of $5 to $10. The Depot also offers a "commuter pass," which costs $65, for those who plan to attend all or many of the events during the school year. New this year is a scholarship for those who need assistance for the pass.
