Darien Environmental Group volunteers, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works, recently conducted tours for all third-grade students at the Darien Recycling Center on Ledge Road.

The program, which began as a pilot in October 2013, allows students to see first-hand where residents deposit recyclables and dispose of solid waste.

DEG volunteer Allison Stolar explained how household batteries and light bulbs are recycled. Students also saw where to recycle single-stream items, electronics, large plastics, motor oil, scrap metal, textiles, yard waste and toured the Swap Shop.
