STAR gets $15,000 grant from FCCF
A $15,000 grant was recently awarded to Star Inc., Lighting the Way from the Fairfield County Community Foundation to enable Star to place adults with developmental disabilities in jobs with local businesses.
The grant funds a job developer position at the local nonprofit organization that has served this area since 1952. Star, at 182 Wolfpit Ave., Norwalk, serves all of mid-Fairfield County with residential, recreational, advocacy and community-based employment programs throughout Norwalk, Westport, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, and Weston.
Upon learning of the grant award, Katie Banzhaf, executive director of Star Inc., said, "With Connecticut recognized as an Employment First state to support people with disabilities, we are thrilled to be awarded these funds to benefit the scores of qualified individuals eager for competitive employment in our communities. Experience has proven that these job placements have been a win-win for the employers, our clients and the communities at large."
Star has more than 60 individuals with developmental disabilities placed in companies and organizations throughout Fairfield County. With an ever-growing population of individuals qualified for competitive employment at Star, coupled with cost-of-living demands and the challenges of the local economy and job market, the job recruiter will play an important role in helping to match all the Star candidates who seek a job with the right local employer.
