Police are investigating the Aug. 10 theft of an iPad from the Country Club of Darien.

The stolen iPad was turned into police the following day after a man purchased it for $220 from another man who identified himself as "John," according to the report.

A 41-year-old Darien woman told police that she forgot that the iPad was charging at the snack bar at the club, the report stated. When she realized she left it, she returned to the club but discovered it was gone, police said.

Police questioned the staff and learned that a young girl with black hair had picked up the iPad, according to the report.

The owner remotely cleared her iPad and enabled a message for the finder that it went missing or was stolen and included her cellphone number, police said. She received a call from a man who told her that he purchased the iPad from a man named John in the parking lot of Best Buy in Norwalk, according to police.

John was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and skinny and drove a white van, police said.

The iPad was returned to its owner.
