HAMDEN — A woman waiting for a bus was robbed of her her purse at knifepoint early Friday, according to police.

Capt. Ronald Smith said a 60-year-old Hamden woman was waiting for a bus at the corner of Dixwell Avenue and North Street at around 5:45 a.m. when a dark gray sedan stopped next to her.

An individual, described to police by the victim as a 5-foot, 6-inch to 5-foot, 8-inch tall man with a thin build, got out of the vehicle holding a knife. Smith said the victim told police the man, described to be anywhere from 22 to 31 years old, pointed the knife into her chest.

The victim was thrown to the ground and suffered a shoulder injury, Smith said. Her purse, he said, which had money and credit cards inside, was taken.
