The Darien Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for the residents of Darien. Registration for programs takes place online at www.darienct.gov/parkrec, at the Parks and Recreation office in Town Hall, or through the mail.

The following are winter programs.

Youth programs

Tiny Tots Soccer: Blue Wave Kickers' Tiny Tots Soccer engages children in physical activity while developing their motor and basic soccer skills. Mommy & Me classes are offered on Monday and Friday mornings and classes for children ages 3 to 5 are offered Monday to Saturday. Jon Bradley, DHS varsity soccer coach will run this program. The first winter session begins in late November, while session No. 2 starts in late January. Visit the Parks and Recreation website for a complete list of classes and fees.

Karate: Darien Martial Arts Academy will offer karate lessons this winter at their studio on Heights Road. Improved strength and stamina, better balance, and improved listening and concentration skillls are a few examples of how martial arts can compliment classroom and sports performance. This program is offered starting Dec. 5 for twelve weeks. Program fee is $425.

Future Stars Basketball: Darien Parks and Recreation announces Future Stars Basketball Academy will offer an instructional program for boys and girls ages 5 to 10 this winter on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Darien Town Hall gymnasium (parents can choose either day). This program will meet for eight weeks starting Jan. 5. The program fee is $199 per session, and each player will receive a Future Stars jersey for participating. This program will include Future Stars' Lessons of Life Program, which teaches sportsmanship, teamwork, doing well in school, and respecting parents, and will be run by former college star and NBA player Frank Oleynick.

Junior Paddle Tennis Lessons: These clinics are an introduction to the game of paddle tennis. Clinics will use drills and games to teach participants the rules and strategies of paddle tennis. Paddles will be provided, or participants may use their own. Clinics will run at Weed Beach for nine weeks on Mondays or Thursdays. Lessons for youth ages 7 to 10 will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. (Mondays), 5 to 6 p.m. (Thursdays) and ages 11 to 14 will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. (Mondays), 4 to 5 p.m. (Thursdays). The fee for lessons is $240/participant.

Pee-Wee Tennis: New Level Sports will offer indoor pee-wee tennis lessons at the Darien Town Hall gymnasium starting in January. Lessons for children ages 3 to 5 are Monday mornings from 10 to 10:45 and 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Lessons are also Monday or Thursday afternoons in 45-minute increments from 12:15 to 3:15 p.m.. Each participant will receive a tennis racket. Program fee is $120 per participant.

Guitar Lessons: Learn chords, scales, theory and how to play your favorite songs. Classes meet each Wednesday in the Town Hall small gymnasium Jan. 4 through Feb. 29. Beginners meet from 4 to 5 or 5 to 6 p.m. while intermediates meet from 6 to 7 p.m. This program is for children ages 8 to 15. The fee for this program is $199.

New Level Floor Hockey: Bring your sneakers and perfect your slapshot. This program will serve as a foundation for the game of hockey. Each class will consist of instruction, a skill session and game time. Every participant will receive a practice jersey. Classes for children ages 4 and 5 will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. while ages 5 to 8 will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. This course meets for eight Friday afternoons starting January 6 in the Town Hall gymnasium. Fee is $150 per person.

Zumbatomics: Zumbatomic classes are high energy fitness-parties packed with special choreographed, kid-friendly routines and music such as hip-hop, reggaeton and more. Zumbatomic increases focus and self-confidence, boosts metabolism and enhances coordination. Classes for children ages 5 to 10 will be held from 4 to 4:45 p.m. on Mondays starting January 9 in the Town Hall gymnasium for eight weeks. Program fee is $100.

Adult programs

Adult Paddle Tennis Lessons: Buddy Scudder, certified platform tennis professional, will offer adult clinics at Weed Beach this winter. Instruction will focus on stroke production, strategy and teamwork with a mixture of high intensity drills, point-situation drills, technique work and match play. Clinics will run for nine weeks starting Jan. 3 on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The fee is $360. Preregistration is required for these programs.

Boot Camp with Nichole Arno: Are you looking to build muscle, lose weight, and strengthen your core? Arno will offer boot camp and kickboxing classes at the Darien Town Hall this winter to help you achieve your goals. Check the website or call the office for specific times, classes and fees.
