Public notice: Beach permits on sale

The Darien Parks and Recreation Department is selling 2012 park permits and boat launch stickers. These permit stickers allow entrance into Weed and Pear Tree Point beaches and are available to Darien residents and taxpayers. Stickers are available at the Darien Town Hall, Room 110, or may be purchased

at www.darienct.gov/parkrec. 2011 stickers are valid through Thursday, May 31.

April Vacation Camp: The Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Future Stars Basketball and Blue Wave Kickers Soccer camp from Monday, April 16, to Friday, April 20. This basketball and soccer camp is for children in grades K through 6 and will meet at the Town Hall gymnasium and fields. Participants can choose from the basketball and soccer camp from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $280, the basketball camp from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for $125, or the soccer camp from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $170. A daily rate is also available for $60.

Future Stars baseball

Future Stars Academy, top rate provider of youth sports instruction, will offer a spring baseball instructional program focusing on throwing, catching, hitting and fielding. Classes for boys and girls ages 5 to 10 will be held Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. starting April 10 and will run through June 5. Program will meet on the Town Hall fields. Fee is $199/Darien residents; $230/nonresidents.

Horses 101

This four-week riding program will be held at Mead Farm (107 June Road) in Stamford on Sunday afternoons from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. or Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. starting April 29. Each session includes a half-hour horseback riding lesson in an outdoor ring plus a half-hour horsemanship class covering general horse care, grooming, tacking and untacking. Fee is

$215/Darien resident;

$258/nonresident.

Family programs

Dog Obedience and Socialization Class: This course will focus on attention, some limited heeling, and sits/downs. Class will be fun and motivational, with games and attention work to build a solid relationship with your dog. These classes are designed to be an introduction to obedience and socialization. Classes will be run by Rick Weatherstone from Tactical Response LLC. All dogs should be at least six months old and must have all their vaccinations. Classes will meet on Saturdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Tilley Pond Park starting April 28. The fee for this program is $150/Darien resident; $180/non-resident. Registration is required.

Safe Boating Classes

Connecticut Safe Boating comes to Darien to offer this eight-and-a-half hour course that will meet the requirements to obtain a Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate. This class will meet on Tuesday, April 24, and Thursday, April 26, from 6 to 10:15 p.m. at the Darien Town Hall. The fee for this program is $115/Darien resident; $138/non-resident. Registration is required.
