Palace Danbury hosts screenings of all 15 Oscar Nominated Short Films Feb. 1
The Palace Danbury is hosting screenings of all 15 Oscar Nominated Short Films on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The event begins at 1 p.m. with the fanciful world of Animation. Rated PG-13, the nominees are “Daughter” (Czechoslovakia, 15 mins), “Hair Love” (USA, 7 mins), “Kitbull” (USA, 9 mins), “Memorable” (France, 12 mins) and “Sister” (USA, 8 mins). There noted in a news release the films are all very good, but adult audiences will appreciate them much more than youngsters.
At 3 p.m. will be the Live Action shorts, featuring five notably diverse films from around the world. Rated R, the nominees are “A Sister” (Belgium, 16 mins), “Brotherhood” (Tunisia/Canada, 25 mins), “Nefta Football Club” (France, 17 mins), “Saria” (USA, 23 mins) and “The Neighbor’s Window.” (USA, 20 mins)
At 6 p.m., the documentaries begin. Rated R, the nominees are “In The Absence” (USA, 29 mins), “Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (if you’re a girl)” (UK, 40 mins), “Life Overtakes Me” (USA/ 37 mins), “St. Louis Superman” (USA, 28 mins) and “Walk Run Cha-Cha” (USA, 20 mins)
Renato Ghio, an adjunct professor of cinematography for the Film & TV Master’s program at Sacred Heart University, will be available for discussion in the lobby after the screenings. After working as a freelance cameraman and editor for many years, he created his own boutique video production company, RmediA, in 1999. In addition to working with his own business clients, Ghio has been the cinematographer on a variety of short films produced in Connecticut.
Moviegoers also are invited to guess the winners. Pick up a ballot in the lobby and check off favorite films. All those who correctly predict the Academy Award winners (announced on Feb. 9) will be entered into a drawing for future tickets to The Palace.
