The Darien fireworks display, hosted by the Darien Firefighters' Foundation, will blast off about 9 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at Darien High School, but not without assistance from a number of local businesses.

While parking pass revenue benefits the firefighters' foundation, the money raised by local sponsors directly pays for the substantial cost of the fireworks display.

The foundation was formed in 2007 as a civilian-run organization committed to raising funds on behalf of the Noroton, Noroton Heights and Darien fire departments, all of which are volunteer. The foundation also raises funds to support the overall first-responder capability in Darien and its mutual aid jurisdictions. Funds raised by the foundation also are used to purchase equipment, pay for training or buy or improve property.

The sponsors include Grove Street Plaza; Baywater Properties; Darien Sport Shop; First County Bank; MacGuire, Cheswick & Tuttle Investment Counsel LLC; Ring's End; Lawley Insurance/Pure Insurance; Nielsen's Florist; Palmer's Market; Darien Chamber of Commerce; Darien Times; Merrill Lynch Darien; Orchard Tree Care; Carta McAlister & Moore; Doug Milne & Sheree Frank, Kelly Associates Real Estate; Dolcetti Inc.; PH Capital; Stamford Health Integrated Practices; Landmark Financial; The Growing Concern and H & L Chevrolet.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and a picnic dinner. Food trucks and local restaurants will be on site, and 10 percent of their proceeds will go to the foundation.
