Nine cars broken into overnight
On Saturday, June 2, nine vehicles were reported burglarized in Darien. All vehicles had been left unlocked by their owners.
Darien police said two vehicles were burglarized on Marianne Road after being parked by their owners at 9 p.m. June 1. Officers reported a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle's glove box open and its contents strewn across the seats. The other vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, had two bags containing clothes, magazines, sunglasses and books taken from the vehicle, police said. One of the bags was found at the end of the driveway at 5:45 a.m.; the other was found by a neighbor at 7:45 a.m. and returned to its owner, according to the report. Police said the only item taken from either bag was a Bluetooth device valued at $100.
Four vehicles were reported burglarized on Ridge Acres Road. Nothing was reported missing from a 2007 Honda Accord and a 1997 Volvo 850, which were parked in the same driveway, police said.
The other two vehicles, a 2005 Honda Element and a 2010 Honda CR-V, were parked in the same driveway, according to the report. A red iPod valued at $160 was reported missing from the Element, which the owner told police was last seen at 8 p.m. June 1.
While conducting a neighborhood canvas on Woodley Road, police discovered a 2001 Audi 4AQ was broken into while parked in the owner's garage. According to the report, the resident had left her garage door open when the vehicle was broken into. She also told police the motion-activated lights on her house went on at about 3 a.m.
During another neighborhood canvas on Shady Acres Road, police discovered a 2003 Mercedes E500 broken into. An L.L. Bean gym back containing various clothing items and running shoes was taken; the items were valued at $445, the report said. Officers also observed the glove box as open and items were strewn across the seats of the vehicle.
A 2010 Jaguar XF was reported broken into on Ridge Road. The report said two bags of approximately $20 in quarters were taken from the vehicle.
